Open an Instagram Art Shop for FREE!

How much would you love to be able to have your customers purchase right from your art page on Instagram?! And how about a free, easy to set up website that goes along with it?? Score!!

If you aren't already selling your art online then this video is a total necessity. You only need three things to get started: an Instagram business page for your artwork, an email address, and a laptop (because I think this process would be a bit tricky to do on a phone screen).

Sock Monster Posse Finally Getting Their Own Space

Hopefully you’re not totally bewildered seeing these little guys on my blog.. you may have even noticed them here before…

The Sock Monster Posse is a gaggle of goofballs I’ve been sewing and adopting out for years (because you don’t buy a Sock Monster, you adopt one) both online and at craft shows and festies. Each lil one-of-a-kind critter is made of one new knee high sock, polyfil guts, and hand embroidered love. They used to have a dedicated website but I shut it down when I went to grad school.

Luckily for the universe though, I’ve just cranked up a whole new online presence for these lil fellas both on Instagram as well as a small website. I’ve been working really really hard on this whole process, which I’m actually documenting for this week’s YouTube video to show you how to make shoppable Instagram posts and a simple website for FREE for your own artwork. Score!!

Sewing a Mega Monster

I recently got commissioned to make something I haven’t made in over five years, a big huge giant Mega Monster!! Hopefully you are familiar with the sock monsters I create sporadically, but you are probably unaware that during the time that I used to sell these on a regular basis at craft fairs in music festivals I was also making much larger versions out of fleece. I even had one that was bigger than this and also wearable, Rosco, who I toted around all the events with me. Let me tell you, dancing Rosco was a real crowd pleaser!

Normally I did not make them with straps on them because I had folks buying them for children sometimes, so I was tickled pink when I got an email out of the blue from a person who had purchased one of my Mega Monsters a few years ago and then told me that some thing about quarantine was making her so antsy for the days that she could go out again that she was craving a monster she could wear like a backpack whenever the world is ready for parties again. I was like ‘don’t worry honey, I have got you covered!’

I mean, can you even imagine bouncin’ round the dance floor, lights flashing, music blaring, your fave band killin it… and in front of you is a ginormous monster keeping the beat?!

So long story short, we picked out the fabric online together and I had it mailed to my house but I took me about a week to make the monster and now he has now been shipped up to New York. I haven’t seen any pictures yet from my client, but I’ll share them when I do.

Also, if you are interested in snagging one of my regular sock monsters just keep an eye on Instagram, in my Stories particularly, where I post new releases every few months.

Studio Vlog :: New Art + Facebook Scam Update + Sock Monsters!

Studio vlog straight from my lovely lil lanai nest:) I've got an upcoming art show featuring new works you haven't seen until today... Yaay!

I'm also challenging myself to go out of my comfort zone in the coming weeks in an effort to get my artwork seen by more people. Cold calls are not fun so any and all advice for bravery is welcome in the comments! (I'm also going to create a series for you all about how to get your artwork seen by more people as I tackle challenges and get creative with my own art marketing)
