Travel Art Studio + Supplies

Do you like to bring art supplies when you travel? I love to create little works of art while on the road (or over the ocean!) to help commemorate my adventures and really cement them in my mind.

Today I want to share my compacted art supplies and how I set them up while out and about in the world, taking inspiration from all that's around me. I'm sharing what I bring, how I setup and record, and what my experience with bringing these art supplies through TSA has been.

Don't let distance from your home studio prevent you from making great art! There are only a few items that you'll be able to find or borrow wherever you land that will help complete an efficient studio space:)

How to Photograph Artwork

Photographing artwork is surprisingly easy and is actually best done with neutral and natural light, which I will show you how to find outside. This technique is great because you don't need any fancy equipment at all. Any high resolution digital or smart phone works wonderfully during the right time of day.

And make sure you tune in next week too because I’m going to show you how to turn your bright and clear photographs into prints from editing to formatting all using free and easy software.

Art Studio Lighting Review :: Method Light

Hey friends, welcome back:) I've got a cool new addition to my studio that I'm super psyched to share with you today - brand new professional LED lighting featuring light-temperature control with remote! Wow!! 

You may be thinking, 'Ok great, Caleigh got a new lamp'...  but a Method Light is so much more than that!

Good studio lighting is absolutely essential for creating, photographing, and displaying fine art. Not only do artists need the light used while painting or drawing to be bright and even, but in order to insure that colors are seen correctly while mixing, cool neutral lighting must be used from start to finish. 

What's really amazing about the Method Light though is that it doesn't just stop at neutral, it actually has a large variety of warm or cool tones it can create from this one spotlight. For me, the slightly cool neutral is perfect for painting (as it would be for most realist artists) but when I use it on a model or still life instead I'll probably want the lighting to be a bit warmer and more inviting. The Method Light has a great range of warm-to-cool settings as well as dim-to-bright so pretty much any desired lighting can be achieved with just a few buttons on the remote control - neato!!
